The alebrijes

The alebrije is one of the newest handicrafts from among old Mexican traditions. The combination of carved Zapotecan wood and the most extravagant fantasy of modern Mexico reaches its most delirious heights in alebrijes, colorful imaginary animals carved for the first time by Manuel Jiménez out of copal tree branches. These fantastic figures of bright Mexican colors guard the corners of Casa María.
