San Miguel Arcángel parish

This neoclassical colonial temple was built in the seventeenth century and has a cruciform floor plan. The famous neogothic tower, however, was built during the late nineteenth century. The master mason in charge of the construction was Zeferino Gutiérrez, who drew inspiration from pictures of European gothic buildings. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla officiated his first Mass at this temple. The tower, which has become the city’s symbol, is one of the most peculiar architectural works of the country and one of the landscape features you can enjoy at the exclusive terrace in Casa María.
